Colin Davis on Conducting

Don’t tell them what to do, don’t make them do things, and most of all - don’t make them do things that they may not understand why they have to do them. As a conductor you should always make them listen, help them listen, and then everything will be natural and clear
— Maestro Colin Davis

Colin Davis when asked about the secret of conducting. These little things we learn during rehearsals... we need to experience them to really understand. I found that imposing a good working environment with respect and dignity is a must to a successful conducting career.A healthy culture is the only thing the conductor, or any kind of leader, should have the right to impose.
